Meet our team

Miguel was born and raised in the beautiful city of Salamanca (Spain). He underwent his BSc studies at the University of Salamanca, spending one year in the University of Bristol as Erasmus student. Then, Miguel moved to Valencia to carry out his MSc and PhD studies in Sustainable Chemistry at the Instituto de Tecnología Química (ITQ) under the supervision of Prof. Avelino Corma and Prof. Antonio Leyva-Pérez. During his PhD, Miguel mainly focused on the study of platinum clusters as catalysts for industrially relevant reactions both in homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysis. After completing his PhD, Miguel moved to Zürich to carry out his postdoc in the group of Prof. Bill Morandi at ETH Zürich. There, he demonstrated the power of organic chemistry and catalysis as a tool for materials science by synthesizing a new family of robust porous polymers using novel catalytic methodologies. Since September 2023, Miguel is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Organic Chemistry at the Stockholm University where he is combining research in organic chemistry and materials science to develop more efficient catalysts for a sustainable organic synthesis.

Camilo was born among the green mountain of Manizales, a pretty town of Colombia, and at the age of 11 he moved to Vila-Real (Spain). He studied his BSc in Pharmacy and MSc in Organic Chemistry at the Universidad de Valencia. Afterwards, Camilo carried out his PhD in Sustainable Chemistry at the Instituto de Tecnología Química (ITQ, Valencia, Spain) as part of a young research group directed by Dr. Rosa Adam Ortiz and Dr. Jose Ramon Cabrero Antonino. During his PhD, Camilo focused mainly on the development of multifunctional heterogeneous Pd catalysts, able to efficiently mediate reactions of interest in fine chemistry. Since December 2023, Camilo is part of Prof. Miguel Rivero-Crespo's group at Stockholm University, where he carries out his postdoc research on the development of new materials to be applied as efficient catalysts in organic transformations in a sustainable way.

Spandan was born and brought up in Kolkata, the beautiful old historical city of India, which is also known by “The City of Joy”. He studied his BSc Hons in Chemistry at Ramakrishna Mission Residential College Narendrapur (Autonomous), affiliated to Calcutta University (2018-2021). He pursued his MSc in Chemistry in National Institute of Technology Calicut (2021-2023). During his MSc studies, he carried out a summer internship in “Wacker Metroark Chemie, Kolkata”, a silicone polymer-based industry (June-July 2022). He has done his Masters thesis under Dr. Raju Dey on S-alkylation reactions of Dithiocarbamtes via Hydrogen Borrowing method using Cu-based Heterogenous Catalysts and was able to publish his first research article. After completion of MSc, he was doing a project internship for short period (Aug-Sept 2023) in Indian Institute of Kharagpur, under Dr. Rajarshi Samanta on a project based on homogenous catalysis and organic synthesis. Since March 2024, Spandan joined Prof. Miguel Rivero-Crespo's group at Stockholm University as a PhD student, where he is focusing on developing new concepts in heterogeneous catalysis applied to sustainable organic chemistry.
